RSA Animate - Changing Education Paradigms

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U
Concerns that this video raises for different groups of people.
This video states that "the problem is they're trying to meeting the future by doing what they did in the past."  The trouble with a large portion of the world today is the fact that we allow outdated ideas to control what we do.  It is important that we, as human beings, think of new ideas and apply them to every day life.  Now, as scientists, this idea is incredibly important.  Science can not exist without people challenging and creating new ideas.  Today, many students are doing just that.  They are challenging the ideas of the past.  Many students are challenging the idea that higher level schooling is necessary.  But, why wouldn't they be?  The video explains that there is a perception that you are either "smart" or "not smart".  Unfortunatly, some of the most brilliant people are stuck in the "not smart" category.  This idea must be challenged by every educator.  No student should be put in such category.  Since students are put into these categories, they become increasingly bored and wonder why education is necessary.  The educational system needs to be aware of the level of mental stimulation in classrooms.  We are stuck in a rut of the past.  Students will not support education unless they see the value of it.
